There are various
ways to print the textile: screen printing is relatively inexpensive but the
finished result on this surface is very poor; colour copy transfer print scuffs
quickly. Dye sublimation, which is the only process we recommend, produces
a good result. With this process, the image is first printed using special
dyes onto a carrier paper which is then applied to the mat. Under heat and
pressure, the image is permanently dyed into the fabric and it will not wear
away. Colours are bright and strong.
Until recently the
technique of sublimation printing was not very developed. Proofing and colour
matching were difficult and the process was expensive. This situation has
now changed. With new equipment, these mats are available at a price and quality
that makes them much more attractive. We expect these mats will become very
popular.
